Tech Wash from Nikwax is a soap-based detergent that can be used when washing impregnated clothes and equipment made of both natural and synthetic materials. The agent reactivates the garment's impregnation and water-repellent properties at the same time as it removes dirt and residues of old detergent.

Note that when washing functional materials, fabric softener should never be used. The fabric softener acts as a conditioner that leaves a coating that clogs the pores in the material's fibers and thus counteracts the moisture-transporting properties regardless of whether it is natural or synthetic material. When your garment has been worn and the water repellent (DWR) coating has started to show signs of wear, such as not beading the water the way it did when the garment was new even after washing with Nikwax detergent, it is time for a re-impregnation.
