A brief history of the bow
The
bow has been used for thousands of years in hunting and warfare. Early bows were made of
yew, ash or elm wood and used sinew or animal hide for strings. Today, the tradition lives on – from simple training bows to high-end compound designs.
We’ve selected a range of
bows for all skill levels and purposes – whether for fun, sport or simulated hunting.
Can you hunt with a bow in Sweden?
No,
bowhunting is not legal in Sweden. According to Swedish law, hunting weapons must meet strict standards for energy and accuracy, which bows currently do not.
However,
training for bowhunting with 3D animal targets is completely legal and popular among advanced archers. In other countries such as Denmark and the U.S.,
bowhunting is permitted under regulated conditions.
Age limits and legal info in Sweden
In Sweden,
there is no age restriction on buying or using a bow, but children should always shoot under adult supervision. Bows are not classified as weapons – however,
crossbows are banned for private use under Swedish law.
