A really handsome and solid older rucksack made for the army of the Romanian Socialist Republic. In any case, they managed to construct a very solid backpack made of thick materials in a wonderfully stylish retro feel.

In any case, it was used from the 60s into the early 90s and is surprisingly well made with thick canvas and nicely sewn and strong leather details.

The slightly special piece of leather on the lid was used to hold the steel helmet in place. The Romanian steel helmet was a bit odd and had a shield in the front and a hole in the back, so you probably have to find another purpose for the buckles on the top cover if you don't have exactly a Romanian steel helmet.

Like so many other backpacks from the mid-20th century, the carrying straps are also made to hold up the cartridge pouches that were in the belt. Therefore, the carrying straps have an extra strap with a hook. You can attach these hooks to the belt, or cut these straps (cut the right straps!). The strap with loop is attached to the hook on the underside and the backpack then functions as a regular backpack. Feel free to press the hook a little so that the straps fit properly.

On one side there is a pouch with a strap above, perfect for a bottle or thermos (however, does not fit 1L Nalgene, 1L Tritan or the Swiss M71 bottle. Max diameter about 8 cm.). On both sides there are holes for straps, probably felt and tent cloth were carried over the rucksack. A D-ring at the neck was probably used to fix the blanket.

Measurements: The backpack is slightly pear-shaped and is about 40 cm wide at the bottom and 30 cm at the opening. The depth is 20 cm and the height 43 cm. The volume is calculated to be about 30 litres

This backpack refers to a used backpack; the condition is in good and fully functional (no missing, broken straps, any tears repaired, etc.). Soldier's name, some repairs and normal wear appear. It is important that you lubricate the belts before use.
Made around 1970, although the stamps are a little hard to read.

Keep in mind that they have been in storage for a long time. Airing, oiling and hand washing are recommended. Due to the thick material, the aromatic storage smell is quite deep and several washings and a lot of airing are needed if you want it to smell good.
