This is a compass with a really smart design. It is hinged in the middle, which allows it to take 3 positions;
Unfolded: Classic map compass with a long side that makes it easier when you take compass courses on the map.
Weight 90 degrees: Used to aim and take a course towards target in the terrain, for example when triangulating.
Folded: the compass housing is protected. You can spin the string around to get a small package.

The aiming function itself is facilitated by dual aiming systems, partly a narrow slit with a corresponding line on the far end and partly a kind of magnifying glass that turns black if you aim obliquely and transparently about you are right.

Please note that if you have magnetic metal near it such as motor blocks, lighters, cell phones, guns, cameras and the like it will show incorrect course.
