The thermometer and compass may not be something you should rely on completely in extreme situations for precision measurement, but excellent complements to other equipment.
The whistle does show correct temperature as far as we can tell, although it takes about 10 mi to settle. But if you have it outside the tent, you can see the temperature outside, for example.

Even the compass adjusts well, but needs to be kept completely horizontal. I found that it was easiest to wiggle the compass minimally and still keep it horizontal, then it adjusts quickly.
Like all compasses, especially small ones, it is sensitive to interfering magnetic fields. Hold guns, motors. magnets, mobile phones and the like at a distance.
