Product description
Sawyer's brand new filter with dual filtration system; partly Sawyer's usual 0.1 micron absolute filter found in their other water purification products, partly their new patented foam filter. These filters provide extended protection for special purposes.
Usage
1) Unscrew the cap, fill to the "max fill line", replace the cap.
2) Massage/knead the bottle for 10 seconds . The water must be forced through the foam filter.
3) Drink directly from the filter nozzle, otherwise pour into another bottle.
Sawyer's classic filter only contains a mechanical filter that removes bacteria and protozoa, but not viruses and heavy metals. You can read more about why under "More info for those interested", but in short, this type of filter is easier to use and can filter large amounts of water. Sawyer's new series requires a little more from the user, does not last as long, but provides vital functions in certain situations
This product refers to
class S1
The new model is available in three classes; S1, S2 and S3, as below:
S1: Purifies 960 liters. Removes bacteria, protozoa, chemicals and pesticides.
S2: Cleans 480 liters. Removes bacteria, protozoa, chemicals and pesticides.
+virus
S3: Purifies 240 liters. Removes bacteria, protozoa, chemicals and pesticides.
+viruses and metals (copper, lead, arsenic, mercury and the like)
All 3 classes also improve taste and smell.
The foam filter in the bottle does not have as long a life as Sawyer's regular filter, filter S1 can clean 960 liters (1600 refills). However, Sawyer will sell spare foam filters.
You clean the filter in the bottle cap when the flow is slow. Just rinsing from the opposite direction restores up to 98.5% of the flow capacity. This filter has an essentially infinite lifetime and can be reused. You can use the bottle with just this filter if you want, but then you won't get the extra protection of the foam filter.
Perfect accessory for hiking, survival, prepping, traveling, keeping in the car and so on. Good to have at home in case of emergency or in the holiday home if the individual water should suddenly become bad. These foam filters provide extra security that may be necessary in certain situations or geographical locations.
First use
The first 4-5 times the foam filter emits particles, which end up in the particle filter. Clean the particulate filter as usual. When you have used the filter 4-5 times, particles are no longer produced. It may be wise to do the above at home in peace and quiet.
Storage
The bottle should not be stored mashed together for a long time. The bottle can be stored with the foam filter wet (the filter is made to prevent mold/bacterial growth). You can either keep the particle filter or the supplied cap on during storage.
If you want to dry out the foam filter, for example to save weight during transport, store the bottle with the lid open in a dry room. You cannot hand press the filter dry as the filter absorbs water.
Dimensions:
The bottle holds 600ml.
Assembled and ready to drink: 365mm x 67mm x 67mm. The bottle alone is 265 mm.
The bottle mashed together and rolled around the particle filter: approx. 110mm x 110mm x 110mm (NOTE! do not store the filter rolled up for a long time).
Includes the following:
Soft silicone bottle with foam filter as well as cork.
Removable filter of the type "0.1 Micron Absolute Sawer Micro Squeeze"
Cleaning syringe
Cleaning coupling

Should I choose S1, S2 or S3?
Here are a few different case studies that can make your choice easier:
S1
- Johan is going to hike through Sörmland and is worried that pesticides and fertilizers from agriculture have run into the waterways. He chooses S1.
- Flurre goes to Thailand and will live in different places. He is unsure about the availability of bottled water and wants to be able to drink water from the tap. He chooses S1.
S2
- Kajsa will paddle outside Mexico in a region that recently had an outbreak of Rotavirus. She chooses S2.
- Janne-Jägare is going to Mali and expects the maintenance to collapse. In order not to be infected with hepatitis E, he takes an S2 with him.
S3
- Sanna is going on a hike and passes through an area with heavy industry, she judges that there is a risk of pollution from industry. She chooses S3.
- Pelle-prepper firmly expects the earth to walk during a beautiful day. Then only the most prepared survive. Sabotage from a foreign power, derailed trains loaded with chemicals and contaminated wells at their bug out location are things that must be managed. He chooses S3.

History.
Sawyer's products were developed to save many human lives in extensive crisis situations. It is about stopping mass deaths as a result of diarrhoea, which occurs as a result of drinking contaminated water. This is very common in developing countries or in temporary crisis accommodation.
The microorganisms that practically kill people in these situations can be removed with Sawyer's standard 0.1 micron filter.
Sawyer's standard filter is also extremely easy to use and can filter incredible amounts of water, so they don't need to be maintained or trained significantly.
But Sawyer has received requests for filters based on activated carbon technology. Such a filter removes even more substances and also improves smell and taste. Sawyer has been reluctant to use this technology because it has a shorter lifespan, provides a slow flow, and places a little higher demand on the user to keep track of how much water has been purified through the filter.
But now Sawyer has invented a special solution. so that activated carbon can be used and still have a versatile and quick solution. By having a special foam filter in the bottle, you only need to squeeze the bottle for 10 seconds and then you can drink as usual.
Tips and tricks
if you want to remove the foam filter, do it when the filter is wet, dried out it is almost impossible to get out as it gets stuck in the bottle.
If you fill the bottle outdoors, squeeze-and-release the bottle under the water surface and you pump water into the bottle.
